Case study

Replacing a paper kennel diary

The diary was accurate until two people needed it at once. The workspace had to show the same day without a queue for the book.

A calendar of stays connected to a person and the animal they are bringing.

What the diary held

Names, dates, a column for notes, and a margin full of arrows. It worked for the person who wrote it. It failed when the phone rang during an arrival, because the book was already in someone else’s hands.

What replaced it

The stay became a record attached to the animal and the person, not a line in a book. Arrivals and collections were the same list. Notes no longer competed with the next booking for space in a margin.

This is a worked example, not a named customer story. The pattern is common: one source of truth that more than one person can see at the door.
