Who it’s for

Home stays

A home stay still has an arrival, a week of notes, and a collection. The job is to keep that record calm enough that another person could cover, and that a regular’s next stay does not start from memory.

A person record connected to an organisation and two colleagues.

A typical day

  1. 01

    The booking

Who is coming, which animal, which dates, and how to reach the people who bring them. The conversation that agreed the week stays attached to the stay.

  2. 02

    The week itself

Notes for walks, feeding and anything that changed after arrival. Another carer should be able to read the week without a handover novel.

  3. 03

    Hand-back

What to tell the family, what to keep for next time, and when they are likely to book again. Regulars should not have to re-explain the animal.

The work in this place

Home boarding, house sitting and small residential stays are still stays. There is a person who books, an animal who arrives, notes for feeding, walks, medication and temperament, and a hand-back at the end of the week. The setting is a house, not a kennel block — which is the point — but the need for a clear record does not disappear because the work is smaller.

When one person runs the whole operation, a notebook and a mail folder can feel like enough. They are enough until someone else has to cover a weekend, until a regular comes back after six months and the last notes are gone, or until two animals in the house at once need different instructions that only exist in a thread with one family.

Home stays are often judged on trust. Families want to know that you remember their animal. Software should not make the house feel like a warehouse. Arhosfa keeps the same pieces as a larger place — animal, people, stay, conversation — without asking you to invent units and rotas you do not have. Home is the package meant for one place and a small team.

Messages are a large part of home boarding. Photos from the day, a change of collection time, a question about a new medicine. If those live only in a personal inbox, the stay has no memory. A shared inbox, even for a team of two, keeps the thread with the animal it concerns so you are not searching mail while the person is on the phone.

Cover is the quiet risk. A home stay that only one person understands cannot be handed over. Time off in Arhosfa sits with the rest of the work, so a planned absence is visible beside the week’s stays rather than announced on the morning someone is already away.

If you also offer daycare days or the occasional overnight in a partnership kennel, those stays belong in the same workspace. The dog who spent a week in the house in March is the dog on a daycare day in April. Arhosfa does not split them into a ‘home product’ and a ‘kennel product’.

What goes wrong without a shared record

  • Notes live in one person’s mail, so cover means forwarding a year of threads.
  • A regular’s last stay is a memory, not a record — coat, medication and temperament have to be asked again.
  • Two overlapping stays in the house, with different collection people, and no shared picture of who is due when.
  • A change of plan arrives as a text and never reaches the person actually with the animal.
  • The work looks small until an absence, an inspection question, or a dispute about what was agreed.

What Arhosfa holds for this work

  • The animal and the household who bring them
  • The home stay as a stay, with dates and notes, not a private calendar entry
  • Conversations kept with the week they belong to
  • Time off so cover is planned beside the stays
  • Room to add daycare or a second place later without starting again

Why this is the right shape

  1. 1

Smaller work still needs a record another person can pick up.

  2. 2

Regulars deserve the last stay to be waiting, not re-typed from memory.

  3. 3

Messages about the week should not vanish into a personal inbox.

  4. 4

Home stays can sit beside kennel or daycare work in the same product when you grow.

The work

  • The people

The families and organisations you know, with a clear next conversation.

  • The stay

Arrivals, the day itself, and collections — visible before the first one is at the door.

  • The conversations

A shared inbox and a support desk, so a question is not stuck in one person’s mail.

Questions for this kind of place

Is Arhosfa too much for a one-person home boarding business?
Home is the package for one place and a small team. You still get the animal, the people, the stay and the conversation in one workspace. You do not have to fill in kennel blocks you do not run.
Can I keep home boarding notes if I also do daycare days?
Yes. A home stay and a daycare day are both stays on the same animal. The notes travel with them, so you are not keeping a house diary and a daycare chart that never meet.
Do families log in to Arhosfa for a home stay?
The workspace is for the people who look after the animals. Families continue to phone, message or mail you. Those threads can live in the shared inbox so the stay has a history.
Where do I start if everything is in a notebook today?
Bring the animals you already see, the people who bring them, and the next week of stays. The resources include a handover checklist if you want a paper bridge while you move.
